Over and Above

Over & Above is an independent neighbourhood bar that's quickly becoming a local favourite. Opened in March 2025 by Rich & Fran Hamer, this spot offers a relaxed, upmarket environment with friendly table service. 

Over & Above boasts a considered selection of cocktails, beers, and, of course, a lovely array of wines, making it a perfect spot for those seeking quality sips in a stylish, more secluded setting. Their co-owner, Fran, led the curation of the list of wines, working with local independent wine and beer merchants, Ake and Humphris, to source wines that don't stick to safe grape varieties.

Bacchus Wine Bar

First up on our tour of Harrogate's wine list is Bacchus Wine Bar on Station Parade. This gem offers an impressive selection, boasting over 40 wines by the glass from Europe, South America, and beyond. It’s the kind of place where you can explore new regions without committing to a whole bottle.

William & Victoria Wine Bar

Step back in time at William & Victoria Wine Bar, a Harrogate favourite for over 40 years! This charming spot has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Descend into the original wine bar downstairs, adorned with blackboards and old pictures, for a true taste of tradition.

While they're also known for their delicious food served in a more spacious upstairs dining area, the downstairs wine bar offers that classic, cosy experience. It’s a place where you can enjoy a fantastic selection of fine wines in a relaxed setting, and their long-standing reputation speaks volumes about their quality and hospitality.

The Little Ale House

While its name might suggest a primary focus on craft beer (and it does excel there!), The Little Ale House on Cheltenham Crescent also has a small yet thoughtfully curated selection of wines. This micropub prides itself on a "proper" country-style pub atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for a cosy glass of wine.

Their ever-changing range of independent microbrewery beers is a highlight, but for wine enthusiasts, you'll find interesting drops sourced from Argentina, Spain, France, Australia, and even Albania. Harrogate's newest botanical restaurant and bar, The Pickled Sprout on John Street, offers a fresh and soulful experience in opulent surroundings.
